LMCIT partners with Ochs, Inc., and Madison National Life to offer disability benefits to member cities and their employees. Disability insurance helps protect and supplement an employee’s income when he/she is not able to work due to an illness or injury that is not work related. Short-term disability and long-term disability — one or both of these options — are available to city employees.
Short-term disability insurance
City employees working at least 30 hours per week can benefit from short-term disability coverage. Cities may contribute to the premium, or offer the program on an employee-paid basis as long as there is 100 percent employee participation.
Cities can select from a number of benefit options and design a program that best meets the needs of the city and its employees. This flexible program is offered at competitive rates.
Long-term disability insurance
Cities may offer long-term disability insurance to city employees working at least 30 hours per week and earning at least $12,每年000, with no medical underwriting requirements.
- Individual employees select the monthly benefit level — from $500 to $10,000 or 60 percent of earnings, whichever is less.
- Premium cost depends on the employee’s age, the benefit level selected and at what point disability benefits are paid.
- League policies feature benefits such as an “own occupation definition” for benefit purposes up to 36 months and, 在某些情况下, 60个月. Other unique benefits include separation of disability benefits from sick leave and a 12-month return-to-work incentive.
- Benefits are payable after either three or six months of disability and continue until end of disability or the individual reaches Social Security normal retirement age.
